March 2009:

Holy Mackerel, Margin Media and MBE launch Creative Drinks

With networking and showcase opportunities for creatives nearly devoid from the Brisbane landscape, three Brisbane creatives have come together to launch Brisbane’s first monthly forum for creatives.

Ratu Lewis of Margin Media, Margot Kooij of Holy Mackerel Group and Craig Fossey of MBE Stones Corner have launched networking event, Creative Drinks.

Creative Drinks is unlike any event of its kind in Australia. It provides members of the creative industry with an opportunity to showcase their work, network with peers and see up-and-coming talent.

Held on the first Thursday of each month from April, the event is aimed at all creatives, from art directors, designers, marketers and photographers, to cinematographers, actors, artists and musicians.

“Unlike standard networking events, Creative Drinks events combine several elements in order to attract all sectors of the creative industry,” said Ratu Lewis, of Margin Media. “At each event, we’ll have a highly regarded speaker or stage show, an exhibition of work around the walls, a product showcase or demonstration, plus networking. It’ll be loads of fun, great to networking and totally addictive.”

The first ticketed event will be held on Thursday 2 April from 6pm, at Mirra in the Fortitude Valley. Highlights include a fashion show by Brisbane fashion designer Danielle Lewis, a photography exhibition by Robert Cobcroft and a talk by Michael Doneman from Edgeware and QUT on commercialising creativity.

“We’re very excited about launching Creative Drinks to Brisbane’s creative industry,” said co-founder Margot Kooij. “This is all about creating a non-competitive environment where creatives can learn, be inspired, network with like-minded souls, and showcase their work. An event of type is long overdue.”

Tickets to the launch of Creative Drinks on 2 April are $45 for members and $60 for non-members. To book, telephone 1300 446 165.

Creative Drinks is proudly sponsored by Getty Images, Semi Permanent, Holy Mackerel Group, MBE Stones Corner, Margin Media, Morris Accounting, and Mirra.
